Lifau, located on the northern coast of Timor-Leste, was the capital of Portuguese Timor from 1702 to 1769. The town played a significant role during the early period of Portuguese colonial rule in the region. Although it was replaced by Dili as the capital, Lifau remains an important historical site. Modern Remains

Today, Lifau is home to the Ruins of the Old Portuguese Fort, a prominent site that offers insight into the Portuguese military presence.
