Description

Nojpetén was the last independent city of the Itza Mayalocated on Lake Petén Itzá in northern Guatemala. It became the capital of the Itza Maya Kingdom and was a key city in the Maya lowlands. This city, known for its isolation, fell to the Spanish conquest in 1697 CE, marking the end of the Maya civilization in the region.
