Modern Remains
Modern Kyoto preserves many elements of Heian-kyō, including temples, shrines, and parts of the original city grid. The Heian Shrine, built in 1895, commemorates the ancient capital. Though much has changed, Kyoto remains a cultural treasure, reflecting Heian-kyō’s enduring legacy in architecture, traditions, and festivals.
