Description
Aghmat, located near Marrakechin Morocco, was the capital of the Almoravid Dynasty during the 11th century CE. Once a thriving city, Aghmat played a pivotal role in the rise of the Almoravid Empire. Now, the site is known for its ruins, which are largely preserved in the desert landscape, offering visitors a glimpse of ancient Moroccan civilization.
Modern Remains
Modern visitors can explore the ruins of Aghmat, which include remnants of ancient walls, gateways, and the foundation of an old mosque. The city layout and architecture reflect the Almoravid period’s influence. Though many buildings have deteriorated, the site offers rich archaeological insights.
