Wiryeseong is an ancient city located in Seoul's Songpa District, South Korea. It was once the capital of the Baekje Kingdom, one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, during the 6th and 7th centuries. Known for its strategic location near the Han River, it served as a cultural and political center during Baekje’s golden age. Today, the area offers a fascinating blend of history and modernity, with archaeological sites and relics that reflect its ancient heritage.

Modern Remains

Today, Wiryeseong is home to several important landmarks that provide insight into the region's Baekje heritage. The Wiryeseong Fortress (or Baekje Historic Areas) is one of the most notable archaeological sites, consisting of ancient walls, gates, and other structures. Olympic Park, located in the area, is built on the ancient city’s grounds and offers visitors the chance to explore both modern recreational spaces and historical ruins. The Baekje Cultural Land, a theme park and museum, also provides detailed exhibits about the Baekje Kingdom, offering visitors an immersive experience of the ancient civilization. Nearby, Neung-dong Tombs, which date back to the Baekje period, offer insights into the burial practices of the era. Additionally, the Baekje Historic Areas are designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, further emphasizing the region’s historical significance.
