Situated on an island at the confluence of the Chao Phraya, Lopburi, and Pa Sak rivers, the city was strategically placed for trade and defense. It became one of Southeast Asia's most prosperous and powerful cities, known for its grand palaces, temples, and international trade connections.

Modern Remains

Today, the ruins of Ayutthaya are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The historical park features iconic structures such as the prang (towers), stupas, and temples, including Wat Phra Si Sanphet and Wat Chaiwatthanaram. Though much of the city was destroyed, its remains offer a glimpse into the grandeur of the kingdom and its architectural style. Ayutthaya remains an important archaeological and tourist destination in Thailand.
