Description

Ava (Inwa), located near modern-day Mandalay in Myanmar, served as a royal capital for several Burmese dynasties, notably the Toungoo and later the Konbaung. Its strategic position at the Irrawaddy River junction made it a hub of power from the 14th century until the 19th century, marked by fortified city walls and royal palaces.

Modern Remains

Today, the remains of Ava can be found in the form of ancient temples, monasteries, and city walls. Key structures such as the Maha Aungmye Bonzan Monastery and the Bagaya Kyaung monastery offer glimpses into the architectural legacy of the Ava Kingdom. Although much of the original city is in ruins, it remains a significant archaeological site and a tourist attraction in Myanmar.
