Description

Phoenice was an ancient city located in modern-day southern Albania, serving as the political and cultural capital of the Kingdom of Epirus during the Hellenistic period. It was strategically situated in the region of Chaonia and functioned as a major urban center for the Epirote League. Known for its strong fortifications and acropolis, Phoenice was one of the most important Greek cities in the western Balkans.

Modern Remains

Today, the ruins of Phoenice can be explored near the modern village of Finiq, Albania. Remains include massive city walls, an acropolis, public buildings, houses, and a theater. Excavations have revealed significant Hellenistic and Roman artifacts. The archaeological site offers insight into ancient urban planning and the cultural life of the Epirotes, standing as a major testament to the region's ancient Greek heritage.
