Description
Perm was the center of the Principality of Great Perm, a historical region located in the northern Ural Mountains, in modern-day Russia. The principality flourished from the 12th to 15th centuries and was inhabited by the Permians, a Uralic people. Perm became known for its trade routes and its early Christianization, influenced by missionaries from Novgorod. The principality was eventually absorbed into the Grand Duchy of Moscow in the 15th century.
Modern Remains
Today, the region of Perm is part of the Russian Federation, with the modern city of Perm being a major industrial and cultural hub. While little remains of the medieval Principality of Great Perm itself, archaeological sites related to the region's early Christianization and Uralic culture can still be found. Some artifacts, such as ancient manuscripts and religious relics, provide insight into the region's history. The Christian influence remains evident in the local Orthodox churches and traditions.
