Padmanabhapuram, located in the present-day Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, was the capital of the Kingdom of Travancore from the 16th century until the 18th century. Nestled at the foot of the Western Ghats, it became a significant political, cultural, and administrative center, known for its royal palace and strategic location near the southern tip of India.

Modern Remains

Today, Padmanabhapuram is known for the Padmanabhapuram Palace, a well-preserved wooden structure that showcases Kerala's traditional architecture. The palace, with its intricate murals and furniture, is a major tourist attraction. The remnants of temples, royal buildings, and the surrounding landscape reflect the historical grandeur of the former capital.
