Description
Neopatras, located in central Greece, was the capital of the Duchy of Neopatras, a small medieval principality established by the Franks following the Fourth Crusade. The town is situated on the southern slopes of Mount Pindus, near the sources of the river Mornos. Neopatras, with its fortified walls and strategic position, was an important center during the late medieval period, with remnants of its castle still visible today.
Modern Remains
Today, Neopatras remains largely a historical site with the most notable remains being the fortress of Neopatras, a medieval castle built on a hill overlooking the town. The castle's strategic position offers views of the surrounding plains and mountains. Although much of the town has been built over, the castle and surrounding ruins still evoke the town's medieval past, offering a glimpse into the history of the Duchy of Neopatras.
