Description

Chang’an, near modern-day Xi’an, was one of ancient China’s greatest capitals, serving as the political and cultural heart during the Zhou (as a regional center), Han, Sui, and Tang dynasties. Known for its vast size, planned layout, and cosmopolitan atmosphere, Chang’an was a hub of imperial power, trade, and innovation for centuries.

Modern Remains

Today, remnants of Chang’an lie beneath and around modern Xi’an. Visitors can explore preserved city walls, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, and archaeological sites revealing palace ruins and ancient streets. Museums and historical parks reconstruct parts of the ancient city, celebrating Chang’an’s legacy as a cornerstone of Chinese history and urban planning. Xi'an is now the second-most popular tourist destination in China
