Description

Martaban, located in present-day Myanmar, was an important port city in the Hanthawaddy Kingdom, which was a powerful Mon kingdom in the lower part of Myanmar during the 14th to 16th centuries.

Modern Remains

Today, Martaban is a small town in Myanmar, with a few historical remnants. Although many of its ancient structures have deteriorated, there are still some archaeological sites, including old pagodas and monasteries that reflect its once-great Buddhist heritage. The region's legacy lives on through the continued cultural practices of the Mon people and their influence on Myanmar's history.
