Description

Lindum (modern-day Lincoln) was the capital of the Kingdom of Lindsey, an Anglo-Saxon kingdom located in what is now eastern England. It was an important urban center during the early medieval period, especially in the 6th to 9th centuries.

Modern Remains

Today, Lincoln retains many remnants from its time as Lindum. The most notable structure is Lincoln Cathedral, one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture, though it was built long after the kingdom's collapse. Other remains include parts of the Roman and medieval city walls and the Lincoln Castle, originally built by William the Conqueror, which stands on the site of an earlier Anglo-Saxon fort. These sites reflect Lincoln’s long and varied history.
