Description

Kolonia was the capital of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and is located on the island of Pohnpei, the largest island in the FSM. Once a colonial center, Kolonia developed under various foreign powers, including Spain, Germany, Japan, and the United States, before becoming the administrative capital of the FSM after its independence.

Modern Remains

Today, Kolonia remains a small but important city, serving as the political, economic, and cultural center of the FSM. Modern remains include government buildings, such as the FSM Congress, as well as historical sites like the ruins of Japanese military infrastructure from World War II. Kolonia combines both traditional Micronesian culture and the influences of its colonial past, making it an important historical and cultural hub in the Pacific.
