Description

Kasongo was an important city in the Sultanate of Utetera, located in the central part of modern-day Democratic Republic of Congo. The Sultanate of Utetera was a pre-colonial African kingdom, known for its trade networks and political organization. Kasongo served as a central hub in the region for governance and commerce.

Modern Remains

Today, Kasongo is a small town in the Maniema province of the DRC. While much of the historical Sultanate of Utetera's structures have disappeared or been altered by time and conflict, remnants of its past still exist in the form of local traditions and historical sites. The town remains a focal point for trade and culture in the region.
