Description

Kantipur was the capital of the Kingdom of Kantipur, a historical kingdom located in the Kathmandu Valley, in present-day Nepal. The city, known today as Kathmandu, was an important political and cultural center from the medieval period. Kantipur was central to the rise of the Malla dynasty and flourished as a hub of trade, culture, and religion.

Modern Remains

Today, Kathmandu retains much of its historical significance with ancient temples, palaces, and squares, especially in the UNESCO-listed Kathmandu Durbar Square. The city is a blend of medieval architecture and modern urban development. Despite facing damage from natural disasters, such as the 2015 earthquake, many of its historic structures have been restored, keeping the legacy of the Kingdom of Kantipur alive.
