Description

Kampilya was the capital of the ancient Panchala Kingdom, located in present-day Uttar Pradesh, India. Known from Vedic texts and the Mahabharata, it was a prominent political, cultural, and spiritual center during the later Vedic period and early Iron Age India.

Modern Remains

Today, Kampilya is identified with modern Kampil in Farrukhabad district. Archaeological remains include mounds, pottery, and structural ruins, and it remains a site of religious pilgrimage. Though largely rural, efforts to preserve and recognize its heritage continue, linking the town to its mythological and historical legacy.
