Description
The Kalâa of Ait Abbas, nestled in the Bibans Mountains of northeastern Algeria, was the fortified capital of the Kingdom of Beni Abbas in the 16th–17th centuries. It served as a cultural and political stronghold of the Kabyle Berber people, protected by its rugged terrain and sophisticated defenses.
Modern Remains
Today, the Kalâa’s ruins, including remnants of fortifications, granaries, and traditional houses, still stand in the mountains, attracting historians and visitors. Though partially in decay, the site reflects the architectural ingenuity of the Berbers and serves as a testament to the region’s legacy of resistance and cultural resilience.
