Description

Huambo, formerly known as Huambo-Cabral Moncada, is a city in central Angola that served as the capital of the Kingdom of Huambo (also called Wambu) during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The city is situated in the Huambo Province, approximately 500 kilometers east of Luanda. The area was historically significant for its role in regional trade and as a center of resistance against colonial forces.

Modern Remains

Today, remnants of the colonial fortifications, such as the Forte do Huambo, remain near the city, serving as historical sites that attract visitors interested in Angola's colonial past. The fort is located close to kilometer 365 of the railway line, approximately two kilometers from the current station.
