Description
Gungnae was the first capital of the Goguryeo Kingdom, one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, located in present-day northeastern China and parts of Korea. Situated on the banks of the Yalu River, Gungnae played a vital role as a political, military, and cultural center during the early centuries of the kingdom, which lasted from 37 BCE to 668 CE.Haojing, located near modern-day Xi'an in Shaanxi Province, China, was the capital of the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046–771 BCE) and served as the political and cultural heart of the early Zhou Kingdom. It was situated at a strategic location on the Wei River, which was essential for transportation and agricultural development. The city flourished during the reign of the Zhou kings and played a pivotal role in the consolidation of Zhou power across the region.
Modern Remains
Today, the remains of Haojing lie near Xi'an, in the area of Fengxi County. Archaeological excavations in the region have uncovered remnants of the city's walls, palaces, and ritual sites, as well as inscriptions in ancient Chinese scripts that provide insights into the early Zhou period. The site is crucial for understanding the early history of the Zhou Dynasty and its transition from a feudal system to a more centralized government. The archaeological findings also help illuminate the political and religious practices of the Western Zhou era. Although the city is not as prominent as other historical sites, it remains an important location for scholars studying the ancient Zhou civilization.
