Description

Gibeah was an ancient city located in the central highlands of ancient Israel, mentioned frequently in the Bible. It served as an important center in the Kingdom of Israel during the period of the Judges and early monarchy. The city was situated near Jerusalem, and its strategic location made it significant in the region’s political and military affairs.

Modern Remains

Today, the ancient site of Gibeah is located near the modern village of Jaba in the West Bank. Archaeological excavations have uncovered remains of a fortified city, including structures from the Iron Age. While the exact nature of the site remains debated, findings such as pottery, walls, and fortifications help scholars understand the city's role in ancient Israelite history.
