Description
Gaur (also known as Lakhnauti) was a historic city located in the present-day Murshidabad district of West Bengal, India. It served as the capital of the Bengal Sultanate from the 14th to the 16th centuries, thriving under the rule of several Muslim sultans who established a prosperous, culturally rich kingdom in Bengal.
Modern Remains
Today, Gaur is an archaeological site, with several remnants of its glorious past. Among the remains are impressive gateways, mosques, and tombs, including the tomb of Sultan Ghyasuddin Azam Shah and the famous Firoz Minar.
