Description
Ebla was an ancient city-state located in modern-day Syria, near present-day Idlib. Flourishing around 2500–2250 BCE, it was a major economic and political center in the ancient Near East, known for its extensive trade networks, advanced administration, and early use of cuneiform writing on clay tablets.
Modern Remains
Today, the site of Ebla (Tell Mardikh) is one of Syria’s most significant archaeological locations. Excavations have uncovered palaces, temples, and archives, offering a rare glimpse into early state formation and urban life in the Bronze Age. Though affected by recent conflicts, efforts to preserve and study Ebla’s ruins continue due to its immense historical value.
