Description
Adumattu was a tribal confederation located in the northern Arabian Peninsula, particularly in areas bordering modern-day Jordan and southern Syria. It was closely associated with the Qedarite Kingdom, which dominated much of the Arabian trade routes. Adumattu, as a client state or ally of Qedar, played a significant role in the regional politics of the 1st millennium BCE, particularly in trade and military alliances.
Modern Remains
The archaeological remains associated with Adumattu are scarce, but evidence from inscriptions and ancient records, including references in Assyrian and Hebrew sources, provide insights into its existence and role. Although no large-scale settlements from Adumattu have been discovered, the region’s ancient caravanserais, trade routes, and rock inscriptions are valuable for understanding the dynamics of pre-Islamic Arabian confederations and their connection to larger empires like Qedar.
