Description

Đại La was an ancient city in northern Vietnam, located near the Red River, and served as the capital of the early Annamese state. It was strategically positioned for trade and military defense, and it became an important urban center under the rule of the Vietnamese warlord Phùng Hưng during the 8th century.

Modern Remains

Today, Đại La’s historical remains are part of modern Hanoi, which grew over the site of the ancient city. While little physical evidence of Đại La remains, its legacy is reflected in the continued importance of Hanoi as Vietnam’s capital and its rich historical heritage. The city’s walls, temples, and monuments serve as cultural landmarks, remembering its ancient past.
