Description

HM Fort Roughs, located in the North Sea off the coast of Suffolk, England, is the stronghold of the self-declared Principality of Sealand. The fort, originally built as a military outpost during World War II, became the center of the Sealand micronation in 1967. Known for its unique status, it remains an iconic example of maritime independence, despite its remote and challenging location.

Modern Remains

The fort consists of a series of concrete platforms, steel structures, and antennas, standing precariously above the sea. While not open to public tourism due to its isolation and private ownership, the fort’s distinctive appearance and its claim to independence make it a unique landmark. Visitors can view Sealand from a distance via boat tours in the nearby coastal areas.
