Description

Kollam, located in Kerala, India, is a historic port city along the Arabian Sea, known for its scenic landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Once the capital of the Venad Kingdom from the 9th to the 12th centuries, it was a prominent trade hub. Kollam is famous for its ancient temples, backwaters, and its role in the spice trade with Arabs, Chinese, and European traders.

Modern Remains

Today, Kollam retains much of its ancient charm. Visitors can explore the Sree Mahaganapathy Temple, which dates back to the 12th century, as well as Thangassery Lighthouse and Thangassery Fort. The Ashtamudi Lake, known for its backwater cruises, is a major attraction.
