Hotan is located in the Tarim Basin, in the Uygur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang, China. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Khotan, an ancient Buddhist kingdom that thrived along the Silk Road. Known for its rich culture and oasis setting, Hotan is famed for its jade production, silk trade, and its role in spreading Buddhism across Central Asia.

Modern Remains

The Khotan region still retains many ancient sites, such as Khotan Ancient City Ruins, which showcase remnants of the old city walls and Buddhist temples. Hotan's Jade Market is still a key attraction, reflecting the area's historic significance in jade trade.
