Tumlong was the capital of Sikkimfrom 1814 to 1894, located in the eastern part of the state. The site is known for its tranquil atmosphere and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Tumlong was the seat of the Chogyal dynasty before the capital moved to Gangtok. The area is rich in natural beauty, surrounded by forests, rivers, and rolling hills.
Modern Remains
Today, Tumlong is a quiet, off-the-beaten-path location with very few physical remains. However, there are a few ruins of the royal palace, temples, and other structures that once existed. The area is ideal for trekking and nature walks, with visitors able to explore the surrounding hills and forests. There are also small local villages and cultural sites around Tumlong that reflect the region’s heritage.
