Description

Thrissur, known as the cultural capital of Kerala, was once the capital of the Kingdom of Cochin during the 18th–20th centuries. The city is renowned for its vibrant cultural heritage, religious diversity, and grand festivals. It is located in central Kerala and is an important hub for traditional Kerala arts, including Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, and Theyyam. Thrissur is also known for its beautiful temples and lush surroundings.

Modern Remains

Thrissur is home to several iconic landmarks, such as the Vadakkumnathan Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and stands as a symbol of Kerala’s temple architecture. The Kerala Kalamandalamis a renowned institution for classical arts. The Thrissur Pooram festival, held annually, is one of the most famous and spectacular festivals in India, attracting thousands of visitors. Other significant sites include the Shakthan Thampuran Palace and the Thrissur Zoo, a popular attraction for families.
