Description
Puri, located on the eastern coast of India in Odisha, is one of the most prominent pilgrimage destinations in the country. Known for its serene beaches, rich culture, and historical landmarks, it was the capital of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty from the 12th to the 15th centuries CE. The city is famed for the Jagannath Temple and its role in the annual Rath Yatra festival.
Modern Remains
The Jagannath Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the most significant landmark in Puri, famous for its annual Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival). Visitors can also explore the Puri Beach, a popular tourist destination. The remains of the Sun Temple at Konark, just a short drive away, are also a must-visit. Other landmarks include the Puri Jagannath Library and the historical Gundicha Temple.
