Description
Sravasti, located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, was the capital of the ancient Kosala Kingdom. It is an important archaeological site, known for its connection to the life of Gautama Buddha. Sravasti is revered as a major center of early Buddhism, where the Buddha is believed to have spent a significant portion of his life, teaching and performing miracles.
Modern Remains
The modern remains of Sravasti include several key Buddhist landmarks. The Jetavana Monastery, one of the most important sites in the city, still contains ruins of ancient stupas and meditation halls. Visitors can explore the ruins of the Anathapindika Stupa and the remains of other monasteries. The site also has several Buddha-related relics and inscriptions.
